productivity, done differently

We live in a world obsessed with productivity. Everywhere you turn, there’s another hack promising to help you get more done in less time—time-blocking, batching tasks, waking up at 5 a.m. I don't think any of these are bad (I love a good hack!) but this week got me thinking - what if the real key to productivity isn’t about doing more? What if it’s about doing less?

The Power of Less

Living with intention means making conscious choices about how we spend our time. The truth is, we’re always making choices, whether we realise it or not. Every “yes” to one thing is a “no” to something else.

Yet, we often pile more onto our plates, convinced that the right system or app will help us juggle it all. The reality though is that no amount of colour-coded planners or optimised routines can fix an overfilled schedule.

I know this firsthand. Right now, I’m in the thick of it—building two businesses, working part-time, and raising two kids. There are days when it feels like there’s just too much to do. And truthfully, sometimes I don’t get it right. Sometimes, I say yes to too many things, thinking I can handle it all, only to feel completely drained. But I’m learning. I’m figuring out what’s sustainable and what’s not. And I’m happy to share what I’ve discovered along the way.

Time Is Finite—Spend It Wisely

Time is the one resource we can’t create more of. Every hour spent on one task is an hour not spent on something else. And yet, we treat time as if it’s limitless, saying yes to commitments, overloading our to-do lists, and squeezing in just one more thing.

But here’s the real shift: Productivity isn’t about doing as much as possible - it’s about doing what truly matters.

What If Productivity Looked Different?

Imagine a to-do list that doesn’t feel overwhelming. A schedule that gives you space to breathe. A life where your priorities—your family, your health, your well-being—aren’t constantly pushed to the margins in the name of efficiency.

What if instead of finding ways to do more, you started asking yourself:

  • Does this actually need to be done?

  • Does it need to be done by me?

  • Does it align with what matters most?

Freedom in Saying No

True productivity isn’t about checking off more boxes. It’s about creating space for what truly matters. It’s about reclaiming the freedom to make choices that align with your values, instead of being driven by a never-ending list of tasks.

So before you search for the next productivity hack, take a moment to pause. Instead of asking, How can I fit more into my day? start asking, What can I let go of?

Less on your to-do list might just be the most powerful productivity hack of all.
